A deadly creature from ancient Egyptian myth that is part lion, part crocodile and part hippopotami. Its name means ‘bone-eater or corpse eater’ or ‘devourer’. It ate the souls of men who had done wrong in life. Amermait is also a guardian to temples and is sometimes depicted as the god Osiris.
