It’s name translates as ‘Goat-like Being’ and is consequently a haunting goat of Ireland. It is known to lurk on battlefields but it also stalks the countryside and intercepts travellers on lonely roads. In an epic battle as the two opposing heroes Ferdia dn Cu Chulaiin fought each other the battlefield was filled with the shrieking screams of the Bocanach. The Bocanach has been depicted as a Goblin-like creature with a goat’s head.
