The Portuguese word for a witch. The Bruxa are higher in number than their counterpart males but both practice the Black Art to cause misfortune, illness and even death to their victims. They are seen as the manifestation of evil. If someone falls ill and is incurable it is believed that they were infected by the spells of a Bruxa or Bruxo (males). It is said that leaving a pair of scissors under the pillow will protect you from a Bruxa.
