He was a minister of Chung Tsung in the 7th century who was able to turn into a protecting Dragon. He tried to keep this ability secret and obsessively spent a lot of time in the Temple. Eventually one of his sons witnessed the transformation. He confessed that he turned into a Dragon so that he could protect the local people from being challenged by another Dragon. One day a rival protecting Dragon mirrored Chang Lung in form. The two looked identical. The astonished Chang Lung called upon his four sons to conquer this new rival. Chang Lung wore a red ribbon on his arm so that the children would know which Dragon to kill. With this aid, the rival Dragon was slain by the arrows of the four sons. Afterwards Chang Lung remained in Dragon form to continue to protect the temple and the community.
