A large worm-like reptile that guarded the Golden Fleece in Greek legend. He was forever watchful and created a great challenge to Jason. Some stories tell that Jason defeated the beast in combat while other stories say that the beast was put to sleep by the Witch Medea. After the Dragon’s death, the King of Aeetes demanded that Jason should plough the teeth of the Colchain Dragon in the fields in order to obtain the fleece. He did so and from the teeth grew a race of men known as the Spartoi.
