This is the name given to a sea creature that has the upper part of a horse and the lower part of a fish. The name means ‘Horse of Two Feet’ and has appeared in many cultures. In ancient Greece it was known as Hippocampus. There has been many sightings of such a creature from the coasts of Africa from the 15th century and from the Americas in the 16th and 17th centuries. Some people today believe that the creature witnessed may have been a walrus.
