A word created by the writer and philosopher Paracelsus (1493 1541). The term was used for practitioners of magic and was used as a generic term to describe the earth-spirits. Earth-spirits are concerned with hidden treasure underground and thus include Goblins and Dwarves. Other names include Sylph for air spirits, Salamander for fire spirits and Undine for water spirits. Earth-spirits include Geb, Veli and Kubera.
