A creature that has appeared on the vases of the ancient Greeks. It has rarely been mentioned in archaic texts. The Hippalektryon has the foreparts of a horse with the wings, tail and legs of a rooster. The creature is depicted as having a person mounting it. The name translates as ‘Cock-Horse’.
