The Hu-Hsien are spirits of Chinese legend. They have the original appearance of foxes but disguise themselves as humans where they stalk the living and increase their vitality by killing others. They also steal sexual energy from any who are seduced by them. Their weakness is wine which when drunk, turns them to their former shape. They are punished by the thunder god who tries to kill them for their evil deeds. They seek protection form the thunder under the scholars and in return promise to lead scholars to high promotion and fame. They are not trusted but scholars never tell of their true nature for fear of being hated by these creatures.
