An ugly Dwarf from the myths of Scandinavia. She also perceived as a goddess in Finnish legend. She is the daughter of Tuoni and Tuonetar, born blind with a dark heart. Kalevala caled Loviatar ‘black in heart and soul and visage’. Later in life she went into labor seeking refuge with Louhi, the goddess of sorcery. With the magical powers of Louhi, she gave birth to nine monstrous beasts: Pistos (consumption), Ähky (colic), Luuvalo (gout), Riisi (rickets), Paise (ulcer), Rupi (scab), Syöjä (cancer), and Rutto (plague). The ninth, who personified envy, was not named.
