A sea Giant of the Maori people that had an insatiable appetite. It followed to human brothers to a shore and demanded some of their fish that they had stocked. They threw a few but Lumakaka demanded more. Eventually all the stock had ran out and Lumakaka angrily asked for more food. The good hearted younger brother offered to sever one of his limbs. In turn Lumakaka had consumed all four limbs and was thus finally full and left the two brothers. The older brother hurried back to his grandfather carrying the torso of his brother. Unfortuantley he was too late as by the time he got there, his younger brother had sadly died from his wounds. He was given a respectful burial. But he had not died in vain because from this grave grew the first coconut tree. This magical coconut tree supplied everything the grandfather and brother would need.
