The Machukuna were undead spirits of Quechua and Incan mythology from southern Peru. They were believed to once be the ancient ancestors who lived in the moon when it was in the place of the sun. This period was the first of the three mythical eras. Eventually a second mythical dawned, and during this era the sun rose for the first time which caused all the Machukuna to dry out. Now during the third mythical era of man, they harvest and farm the potato fields during the night. The Machukuna are known to take the form of the breezes in a graveyard whereby they are referred to as the Machula Aulanchis.
