A serpent of the sun god Wunekau of the people of Papua New Guinea. He is also known to be a bird man who helped Wunekau to create the Earth. The Make Make was born from a floating skull that had come from a temple but had been washed out to sea. Make Make created the first humans and with help from the goddess Haua, he brought flocks of birds to come to the island. In the Easter Islands the people’ main god of worship was Make Make. He took the flesh of a calabash and molded in some earth to create three men and one woman. He later incarnated as seabirds, a form in which he is worshipped. Some tribes associated him with warfare and so human sacrifices were made in his honour. Sometimes Make Mkae is depicted as a man with the head of a bird.
