This creature was described by Ambrose Pare (1517 – 1590) in his work On Monsters and Marvels. It explains that the Marine Lion had the body of a lion but completely covered in scales and having a voice similar to that of humans. It has been reported to have captured in 1540 in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The creature was shown to the Bishop of Castre but died soon after.
