An ancient snake that is the King of the serpents in Indonesian belief. At one time humans used to live in the heavens but Batara Guru a beautiful woman fell from a whole in the clouds to the earth, which at this time was covered in a vast ocean. The snake Naga Pahoda rose from the depths to swallow her but she sprinkled dust which formed and island. From this island she sprinkled more dust to form the land mass of earth and then created crops and animals. Naga Pahoda squeezed the newly formed lands and broke them up into islands.
