A man-lion that is an emanation of Vishnu. A Demon called Hiranya-Kaspiru threatened to murder Prahlada who was a great devotee of Vishnu. The Demon proclaimed that he could not be killed by man, beast nor god, at night nor at day, and neither within the palace nor outside it. Vishnu manifested as a lion man that was neither man, beast nor god and went to the palace at twilight being neither night nor day. He then used his magical powers to hide inside a pillar that was neither outside nor inside the palace. When Hiranya-Kaspiru went past Nr-Simha disembowelled the Demon and saved Prahlada.
