A generic word for water monster in Gaelic. The Piast was seen by the sailor Maeldiun who observed how the beast his in water tree and stretched out is neck to kill and eat the largest of the sea cows grazing on the sea bead. The hero Cu Chulainn lived in a fortress and was regularly attacked by assassins. He overcame them all and beheaded all of them. Then at one time he heard the water stirring and the Piast rose above him and opened its mouth threatening to swallow the whole tower. Cu Chulainn used his special leap to jump and stab the creature at its heart. The beast fell wounded and was then beheaded.
