A primeval Giant from the stories of Hindu legend. According to the Vedic scriptures, Purusha was born from a cosmic egg. He was three quarters immortal and one quater mortal. From his mortal side, Viraj was born. Viraj became the consort of Purusha. Together they were responsible for the inhabitants of the earth. The gods killed them and used various parts of their boides to create the universe. Purusha’s head became the sky, his eyes the sun, his breath the winds, and his limbs the many parts of India.
