A monster from Greek and Roman myth. The Python came from a swamp from Delphi. It grew to a huge size, so colossal that it encircled the city. Hera used the Python to destroy Leto when she discovered that Leto was her rival for Zeus. Poseidon intervened and hid Leto underneath the waves. The Python set out to kill Leto but could not find her. On his way back to Delphi, the sun god Apollo was waiting. Apollo used the arrows crafted by Hephaestus to shoot down and kill the beast. Where the beast’ lay, the place for the oracle of Delphi was built. Apollo then created the Pythian Games in honor of his victory.
