A fabulous sea creature believed to live off the coasts of Norway. It had smooth skin and a large head of a horse. It was originally described by sailors and artists as a beasts with a head resembling that of a dog, and protruding tongue, a mane and forelegs with claws and hair. It also had the tail of a fish. The name Rosmarus came from the Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner (1516 - 1565). Some believe that the Rosmarus may have actually been a walrus.
