This was a Taniwha or fairy from the mythology of the Maori people. He lived in the oceans off the East Coast of the North Sea. He takes the form of a Mak Shark and he accompanied the hero Takitimu in his voyage to the island Aotearoa. He is known to help those who are drowning by swimming them back to shore. When Shamans heal those who are sick they call upon the powers of Ruamano and use sea salt which Ruamano enchants with his magical medicinal power.
