An Angel in Judaic scriptures frequently known as Samael and originally known as the Angel of Death. His name translates as ‘Blind God’. Blind here means ignorance or lacking in wisdom. According to the Gnostics, ignorance was the root of all evil. When Moses died he did not want to give up his soul. Samael was sent to retrieve it but he was blinded by Moses who struck the Angel with his staff. Samael has 12 wings decorated with jewels. He helps people with persistence and courage. He lives in the 7th heaven but watches over the 5th.
