The Serpent from the Garden of Eden from the book of Genesis. This being tempted Adam and eve, the first humans to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge, thus turning their back on God who forbade them to eat the fruit. This serpent is sometimes shown with a human face and in early art, sometimes with the wings and plumage of a bird. In English art there have been images of this serpent with the form of the Lindworm of Norse mythology.
