A sea monster form medieval Europe that had the head of a lion, the body and tail of a fish and the wings of a bat. In Anglo Saxon belief it symbolizes those who are set out to do good but become distracted by meaningless amusements. The Serra would chase ships but if caught it would seep back down into the water again.
