An Ogress from the tales of the Choctaw Native Americans of south eastern America. She had the ability to transform into an owl. She pretends to be a good honest person to be invited into the family as a pet owl. However, once she gained a families confidence, she would transform into an Ogress and decapitate the father. When she did this she ran back into the woods with the head of her victim wrapped in a bag. When all the animals found her suspicious, they asked if they could look in the bag. Skatene manipulated them into silence and thus remained innocent of murder. Later a group of wildcats were not deceived and looked in the bag to find the severed head. When they did, they pounced on Skatene. Skatene was able to outwit these creatures and escaped to kill again. Stories of Skatene were used to scare misbehaved children.
