One of the guardians of fate in Norse mythology. There were three main Norns that lived in a hall under the world tree Yggdrasil and were called Urd, Verdandi and Skuld which means ‘Became’, ‘Become’, and ‘Becoming’ or ‘Past’ ‘Present and ‘Future’ respectively. Collectively they were known as Norns. There were also minor Norns that attached itself to a newborn child and oversaw their life span. Some Norns came from the heavens while others were descended from Elves and Dwarves.
