This name is given to a variety of creatures from many cultures. In European myth they are said to have inhabit the mountains or are made up of rocks. They feature in Norse myth known as Jotuns. In the legends of the Yahgan people of Tierra del Fuego in South America, the Stone Giants are defeated by the humming birds that attack the soles of the Giants feet which is its weak spot. This agitates the Giant to death causing its heart to explode. From the beliefs of the Huron and Iroquois Native Americans, the Stone Giants are primordial cannibals that are defeated by Hino the god of Thunder. The Abenaki Americans tell of Stone Giants as a primordial race of beings that were defeated by the hero Gluscap.
