This was a white pigeon that came from the mythical land of Hawaiki in the mythical stores of the native New Zealanders. It stopped by a pool of water and drank from it. This gave it magical power that emanated from its body. This produced mana, a type of magical energy that increased one’s prestige and influence. The people of a nearby village benefited from this mana and venerated Taiamai. One day a jealous man of another village attempted to catch the bird. Taiamai flew away into a rock. The rock became Taiamai and stood forever by the pool, radiating mana to the local people.
