A great fox of Greco-Roman mythology. The fox terrorized the town of Cadmeia. It had the magical properties to be both immortal and never to be caught. It would demand that a child should be sacrificed to it every year. The people of the town eventually asked the great hunter Laelaps to kill the beast. Laelaps was a magnificent hunter who was immortal and had the magical ability to always catch whatever he hunted. He chased the Teumessian Vixen who ran away. The hunt was to be never ending and lasted for many months until Zeus intervened and turned both creatures into stone.
