A Rainbow Serpent that has a multi-coloured body. At one time, two men and their boys went ashore an island in search for game. They set up a campfire and told the children to stay close to it for safety. As soon as the men had left out of sight, the children went to the shore to cool themselves down in the water. They saw a shadow in the water and before they could escape, a large snake’s tail dragged them under, and they were turned to stone. When the hunters returned they saw that their children were missing and followed their footprints to the shore. There they saw two new rocks and realized that their children had been turned to stone. The Thugine rose above the water looking down at the men who were a gasp. They saw this creature with its iridescent colours and escaped. Children of Northern Australia were warned against the Thugine.
