These are vicious creatures from the myths of the Inuit in the eastern Hudson Bay region of Canada. Their name comes from the word ‘tunnit’ meaning ‘tattoo’. They are called this for they have the body of a human but with enormous heads covered in tattoos. With their counterpart, the Katyutayuuq, they search in abandoned or empty houses for scraps. Sometimes they hide under or in the bed and wait for the traveller to come home. When the man returns to his abode, the Tunnituaqruk leaps out and kills him.
