The Usumgallu is a beast from Akkadian mythology and is described as being a winged lion with the legs of an eagle. Usumgallu is one of the eleven monsters bron from the goddess Tiamat and god Ansu. After Tiamats death at the hands of the sun god and Igigi champion, Marduk the eleven monsters led by Qingu fought Marduk in an epic battle. All the creatures were routed by this hero. The Usumgallu is also said to be a type of horned viper along with the Mushmahhu and Bashmu, two other monsters created by Tiamat.
A modern day Satanic cult called The Temple of Black Light contains a ritual for sorcerers call upon the power of Tiamat to summon Usumgallu and the other ten creatures in a sacrificial ritual of eleven black candles.
