A Giant who challenged a man called Gangard. Gangard was actually the great Norse god Odin in disguise. The two had a competition with each other to ask and answer each others question. The one that could not answer all questions would offer their head to their opponent. Vafthrudnir asked difficult and challenge questions but Gangard answered each one correctly. Gangard then asked his questions. They too were very tough and challenging. Vafthrudnir however triumphantly answered them all correctly. Gangard had one more question left; ‘What did Odin whisper into the ear of his dying son Baldr?’ Vafthrudnir did not know and stated that only Odin himself could know that. He then realised that Gangard was in fact Odin. Defeated but valiant, Vafthrudnir offered his head.
