A Giant of Celtic mythology. He was so big that he needed pitchforks to raise his eyelids. He features in the Welsh Mabinogion in which the hero Culhwch wishes to marry the Giant’s daughter, Olwen. Culhwch travels to see the Giant with his companions and manages to slip past the guards and their mastiff hounds guarding the nine gates of the Giants castle. Ysbaddaden then sets Culhwch impossible tasks such as obtaining the shears, razor and comb from the terrifying gigantic boar Twrch Trwyth. Culhwch called upon King Arthur and with his help he managed to obtain the items despite the deaths of many warriors in the battles against the boar. See Twrch Trwyth.
