Forest spirits in the form of a deer from Yacutan. Their leader was Nohoch Ceh who was the largest of the Yumilekax and had a bee’s nest in its antlers. These spirits would play tricks on hunters especially those that killed too much. There was one hunter who killed for sport and so he slaughtered more deer than he could eat. One night he went hunting and shot a deer. A stone fell from this deer and he took it with him and continued his hunt. Later he heard a few deer approaching and so he hid and shot at them. The arrows went through the creatures and did not kill them and the herd moved towards him. Out of fear he scrambled up a tree but the deer rutted against the trunk destabilizing it. The man feared for his life and then the Nohoch Ceh spoke to him and asked him for the stone. When the stone was given the deer disappeared into the woods and the hunter resolved never to kill deer again.
